Our Board
Chairperson – David Pires 2001 – 2004, 2006 to current
David has some 30 years experience in property management, with the majority of this time in retail Shopping Centre Management. Currently Asset Manager for the Hawaiian Group, a privately owned Commercial Property investor based in Perth, David oversees two retail centres in the Perth CBD and the Claremont redevelopment. David spent a short time in China returning in 2005 to take up his current position in Perth.
Deputy Chairperson - Shauna Deane (B.Juris; LL.B; BSW) 2001 – current
Shauna completed her B.Juris at UWA in 1975. She completed her LL.B at the same law school in 1976. Thereafter Shauna completed a two year Post Graduate Degree in Social Work at UWA. In 1979, she undertook articles with the then Crown Law Department (now the State Solicitor's Office). She was admitted to practice in February 1980 and worked as a legal officer with the Crown Law Department until joining the Office of the DPP at its inception in February 1992. In February 1996, Shauna was appointed a Queens Counsel and then in February 1998 she was appointed to the District Court Bench.
Board Member - Steven Walker (B.Bus (Acc); FCPA; FAICD) 2001 – current
Stephen has over 35 years experience in Accounting and Finance as well as senior level operational experience in Human Resources, Strategic and technological development. Stephen has held a number of senior corporate positions and is currently Chief Financial Officer at Activ Foundation Inc.
Board Member – Tony Pires 2001 – current
Tony comes from a background in Church Ministry, having served 25 years in communities in Perth and Kalgoorlie - the final 18 years being in leadership roles. Seven years ago he moved to the Education sector specialising in the Career Management area. He recently completed a Graduate Certificate in Career Development at ECU and now works as a Career Development Officer with Careerlink. Across nine Independent Colleges in the Northern Suburbs, he manages students in Years 10, 11 and 12 as they take their first steps toward their future careers.
Board Member - Norman Brahim (BEd) 2006 – current
Norman has worked in education, particularly Aboriginal education for many years. He has worked in several areas of the state as a student, classroom teacher, principal, project officer, consultant and Manager for the Department of Education and Training (Western Australia) and the Catholic Education Office of WA. Norman is also a private consultant in Aboriginal Community Development.
Board Member - Ann Burns 2010 – current
Anne Burns has been a leading journalist and corporate advisor for the past 30 years. Anne worked in the print media in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth before establishing communications management firm Halden Burns Pty Ltd in 2003 with former State politician John Halden. Anne has a life-long interest in public affairs.
