Italian Earthquake Appeal 2016

2 September 2016

On August 24 at 3.35am an earthquake struck a region in central Italy. The destructive power of the earthquake resulted in devastation to a number of towns and villages. 280 people died that night as well as many hundreds injured resulting in significant trauma for many individuals and families. There are over 4,000 people displaced. A significant number of children died due to the fact that many of them were visiting relatives and grandparents during their school holidays.

Centrecare is participating, along with a number of others, in an important initiative that is seeking to raise funds for the victims of the earthquake.

The first fundraising event is a Gala Dinner to be held next Thursday at the Perth City Hall. All the staff time, food and beverages have been donated and two of Perth’s finest Italian restaurants are involved in the food’s preparation. Perth City has donated ten thousand dollars to the appeal and has provided the City Hall free of charge. We are hoping that 200 people will attend the Gala Dinner which will raise $50,000. This money, along with any other funds raised, will be used to provide on the ground support to the communities most affected by the earthquake.

If you can possibly come along to the dinner please do as it will be an amazing and memorable event. However, information on how to make cash, tax deductible donations to the appeal is also provided. Any support you are able to generously give will be greatly appreciated.
