About Centrecare Youth Grants
The Centrecare Youth Grant provides small grants of up to $1,000 (excl GST) to support young people aged 15-18 who have been in out-of-home care and are transitioning to independence.
History of the Youth Grant
The Youth Grant, formerly known as the John Connor Youth Fund, was established in 2005 thanks to a generous bequest from Mr. John Connor.
What is covered by the Youth Grant?
The Youth Grant provides funding of up to $1,000 for items that assist with transitioning to independent living.
Eligible Expenses
The Youth Grant can be used for a range of expenses, including:
- Furniture
- White goods and kitchen items
- Bedding and linen
- Bond for university accommodation
- Laptop/computer for further education
- Connection costs associated with utilities (e.g., phone, electricity, and water)
- Driving lessons
Assessment criteria
Each application will be assessed by the Director of Centrecare based on how the grant will benefit the applicant's transition to independence.

Application Timeline
- You will receive an acknowledgement via email within five business days of receipt.
- Please allow up to one month for advice regarding the outcome of your application.
- All applicants will be notified in writing of the outcome of their application.
