Centrecare was honoured to be partnering with Pandora Projects, Relationships Australia WA and Communicare in hosting international thought leader Melissa Petrangelo-Scaia to advance professional learning and reflective practice across the family and domestic violence sector in Western Australia. Melissa is an internationally recognised expert in domestic and family violence intervention, with more than 26 years of experience spanning local, national, and global contexts. Her work focuses on the nuances of reactive and resistive abuse, trauma-informed accountability practices with men using violence, and systems responses to domestic and family violence, including addressing women’s use of force. 'Perspectives In Practice' ran from 2 - 5 September contributing meaningfully to the long-term sustainability and impact of family violence prevention and response efforts in WA.
As part of the 'Perspectives in Practice collaboration' with Relationships Australia WA and Communicare, Centrecare was grateful for the chance to host international expert, Melissa Petrangelo-Scaia at our Midland branch yesterday as she facilitated two workshops on 'Understanding and Working with Reactive and Resistive Abuse'.
With one workshop being practice-driven and the other with some of Centrecare and Zonta House Refuge Association Inc senior leaders, Melissa engaged our teams in thought-provoking conversations, sparked reflection, and challenged us to examine our ways of working.
