4 July 2014

Attorney-General for Australia
Minister for the Arts
Senator the Hon George Brandis QC
Media Release
30 June 2014

I welcome the Interim Report of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. This is an important milestone for the Commission and the Australian community.

The Interim Report makes clear the enormous scale of the task being undertaken by the Commission.

It is important that those affected by child sexual abuse and the Australian community as a whole can learn from the Commission's work so far.

The Commission has also released its second case study report.

Both reports were tabled in the Parliament today and are available on the Royal Commission's website (http://www.childabuseroyalcommission.gov.au).

The Royal Commission has also sought a two year extension of its 31 December 2015 closing date to deliver its final report, up until December 2017. This request is currently being considered by the Government.
