Arif's Story

Arif Khan is a 25 year old Shia Muslim refugee, who received the national Cultural Understanding Award in April 2014 for his work with the community and in of support of young refugees. Arif tells his story to Gemma Khaicy of the Illawarra Mercury. This is a moving and insightful story that gives an understanding of the challenges faced by so many of the refugees trying to find a place in Australian Society and of the experiences in their own countries that have pushed them into this situation.
