Sorry Day 2020

26 May 2020

Sorry

Today is Sorry Day and an opportunity for all to reflect once more on the pain and suffering of the Stolen Generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Their trauma has been felt through the generations and is still an enduring sadness among our fellow Australians of Indigenous heritage. This pain is at the heart of much of the current distress experienced in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

We at Centrecare say sorry to all those Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were removed from their families, for the hurt and pain they invariably suffered. We say sorry to their mothers and fathers and extended families for the loss and pain experienced in having their precious children taken away.

We sincerely hope that the memory of this terrible period in Australian history will keep us from repeating the mistakes of the past and that it inspires us to work towards a more just and reconciled Australia.
